Magnitude 7.5 Earthquake Rocks Afghanistan and Pakistan, Damaging Buildings and Causing Panic

In breaking news, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale has jolted Afghanistan and Pakistan. The quake occurred on March 21st, 2023, at approximately 8:45 AM local time.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Hindu Kush region, approximately 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of the Afghan city of Kabul. The quake was reported to have a depth of 86 kilometers (53 miles).

The tremors were felt in several cities of Afghanistan, including Kabul, Jalalabad, and Kunduz, as well as in the Pakistani cities of Islamabad, Peshawar, and Lahore. Witnesses reported buildings swaying and people rushing out onto the streets in panic.

There are no reports of any casualties or damage at the moment. However, rescue teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to assess the situation and provide assistance if necessary.

It is worth mentioning that Afghanistan and Pakistan are located in an earthquake-prone region. In 2005, a massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 struck the Pakistani-administered Kashmir region, killing over 80,000 people and leaving millions homeless.

As more information comes in about the earthquake, it has been reported that several buildings in the affected areas have suffered damages. The magnitude 6.5 earthquake was felt across northern Pakistan and northeastern Afghanistan.

In Pakistan, the worst-hit area was the city of Peshawar, where several buildings have reportedly collapsed. The earthquake also caused a power outage in the city, leaving many without electricity. In the nearby city of Islamabad, people rushed out of their homes and offices as the tremors shook the city.

In Afghanistan, the earthquake was felt in the capital city of Kabul, as well as in the provinces of Badakhshan, Baghlan, and Kunduz. There are reports of several buildings suffering damages in the province of Badakhshan, with some houses reportedly collapsing.

According to the local authorities, there have been no reports of any casualties so far, but the damage to infrastructure is still being assessed. Rescue teams have been deployed to the affected areas to provide assistance and support to those affected by the earthquake.

The earthquake comes at a time when both Afghanistan and Pakistan are facing multiple challenges, including political instability and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The earthquake is likely to exacerbate the challenges faced by the affected communities, and immediate support will be needed to ensure that those affected receive the necessary assistance.

We will continue to provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.
